Thanks to social media, email, sites like Buzzfeed, online gaming and more, it's safe to say many college students are probably heavy Internet users.

Researchers from Missouri University of Science and Technology, Duke University Medical Center and the Duke Institute of Brain Sciences found that college students who are indeed heavy users of the Internet may also exhibit signs of addiction, according to Three Rivers Publishing.

In the study, researchers studied 69 students over the course of two months.

"About 5 to 10 percent of all Internet users appear to show web dependency, and brain imaging studies show that compulsive Internet use may induce changes in some brain reward pathways that are similar to that seen in drug addiction,” said Dr. P. Murali Doraiswamy, a professor at Duke University Medical Center.
