This weekend, the Santa Monica Place shopping center will be filled with about 2,000 student hackers and programmers participating in a student-run hackathon hosted by HackTech, which is a partnership between UCLA and Caltech, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Students from UCLA, USC, Caltech, Stanford, UC Berkeley and other universities are expected to compete and produce websites, apps or hardware using any open-source libraries and API. The founders of StartEngine,Tinder and Launchpad LA will judge what they create, and awards will be given out Sunday.
