The History Channel is partnering with the University of Oklahoma to offer the first-ever TV network-branding online course for transferable college credit.

Launching on Tuesday, "United States, 1865 to the Present"  provides an interactive way for college students to earn three transfer credits. The $500, 16-week U.S. history course combines video lectures with quizzes, discussion groups and social interactions between students and the professor. The university's renowned professor and historian Steve Gillon will teach the course.

"This course, combining the best in education and entertainment, brings together the resources and talents of a flagship state university and a national television network to present new ways of learning about the past,” said Gillon in a press release.

"United States, 1865 to the Present" will be offered during the spring semester.
