Morris Day & The Time, Real Estate and Jefferson Starship are just a few acts helping mark the 31st season of Santa Monica Pier’s Twilight Concert Series, officials announced.

The 10-week concert series kicks off July 9 with the legendary — and flamboyant — Day, whose best known as the frontman of The Time in the cult favorite “Purple Rain.” Also on the bill is Pasadena’s own Dâm Funk, a modern funk vocalist who has collaborated with Snoop Dogg and others on Stones Throw Records.

Shows start at 7 p.m. every Thursday on the iconic Santa Monica Pier through Sept. 10 with the following acts:

July 16 — Real Estate and Hippo Campus

July 23 — ¡Cubanismo!

July 30 — JD McPherson and Sarah Gayle Meech

Aug. 6 — Australia Rocks The Pier

Aug. 13 — Sister Nancy and Jesse Royal

Aug. 20 — Ariel Pink and The Mynabirds

Aug. 27 — Jefferson Starship and Purple Mountains Majesties

Sept. 3 — Rebirth Brass Band, plus Miles Mosley And The West Coast Get Down

Sept. 10 — TDB

The official lineup of Aug. 6’s Australia Rocks The Pier show and Sept. 10’s closing night are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

The Twilight Concert Series, produced by Santa Monica Pier Corp. and RH&S Concerts, is part of Santa Monica-based public radio station KCRW’s free, all ages Summer Nights series, which also includes concerts in Pasadena and downtown L.A. In addition, the Twilight Concert Series is also partnering with TrueCar, a Santa Monica-based company, and Alt 98.7 FM.
