With lots of thrillers and horror movies currently playing in theaters – The Hitcher , Blood and Chocolate and Primeval among them – it's only fitting that the Rialto, as part of its weekly “Midnight Madness” series, would screen Stephen King's 1989 classic, Pet Sematary .

The film, based on King's novel (he also wrote the screenplay) and directed by Mary Lambert, combines drama, mystery and horror elements into a story about a new country house belonging to the Creed family which seems to be perfect. This is, of course, until they discover that the cemetery located up the hill from their new home isn't the docile place it seems.

When their youngest son, Cage, is killed in a fatal accident – he's struck by a semi-truck barreling down the narrow highway near their home – one of the town's neighbors buries the boy in the cemetery. All seems fine until Cage comes back to life. However, as his family and the neighbors soon find out, not everything that comes back from the cemetery is exactly how it once was.

The Rialto is located at 1023 Fair Oaks Ave. in Pasadena. Pet Sematary will screen at midnight. For more information, call (626) 388-2122 or visit www.landmarktheatres.com.
