A 16-year-old girl becomes unexpectedly pregnant. That’s the very basic premise of Juno. Sounds like a Knocked Up knockoff, doesn’t it? Except the movie is anything but an imitation.

Juno (played brilliantly by Ellen Page) lives in a world all at once foreign but relatable. Brimming with quirks, she goes through life on her own terms – or at least tries to.

Opting to put the baby up for adoption rather than abort or raise it, Juno affects the lives of everyone she comes in contact with just as much as they affect her. Whether it’s with the father of her child (Superbad’s Michael Cera), her parents (J.K. Simmons and Allison Janney) or the couple who plans to adopt her child (Jason Bateman and Jennifer Garner), Juno manages to be both hilarious and touching, a feat that not many movies can manage these days.

So, no, it’s not Knocked Up – it’s Juno. And you need to see this movie.
