Handsome and slight, Rahsaan Patterson cruised soulfully onstage following a rousing spoken word performance by Sonja Marie. On tour promoting his latest CD, Wines & Spirits, Patterson has perfected his delivery so that audiences actually feel – as well as hear – every note he creates.
Both singing and scatting Patterson commands your attention and holds it as you ride the highs and lows that are his voice. Patterson’s an admitted fan of Chaka Khan, who was in attendance, as was Lalah Hathaway, daughter of Donny. One of the highlights of the night was when Chaka and Lalah joined Patterson onstage for a scat-fest extravaganza.
