A one-man band, Greg Laswell’s new EP, How the Day Sounds, is a refreshing breath of earnest songwriting and skillful musicianship. Flexing his talent, Laswell wrote, performed, recorded and produced the six-track disc in his home studio.

However, How the Day Sounds is hardly a rough-cut basement recording. Songs such as “High and Low” and “What a Day” are lush and melodic featuring polished piano playing and delicate strings. The track “Days Go On” is reminiscent of Radiohead, but retains a unique quality with a chorus floating over rhythmic piano keystrokes.

While it seems Laswell is often playing it on the safe side, the result is still modern and sincere.
