A coven of witches tells a Scotsman his fortune, leading to disastrous and bloody consequences.

The aforementioned Scot (Jim LeFave) just can’t wait to be king. He and his wife (Susan Angelo, alternating the role with Melora Marshall) commit regicide to further their ambitions.

Their minds warp from the guilt, and they see enemies everywhere. The bloodbath bubbles over.

“Macbeth,” the shortest of Shakespeare’s tragedies, speeds along at a frenetic pace with actors running, chasing and killing each other in the woods. It’s violent and beautiful, full of the requisite sound and fury.

But bring a sweater. The outdoor amphitheatre is a marvelous venue, but, as the crass colloquialism goes, the canyon gets colder than a certain witch’s body part.

The Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum is located at 1419 N. Topanga Canyon Blvd., Topanga. All shows are Sunday at 3 p.m. For more information, visit www.theatricum.com.
