Claire (Samantha Morton) and Jay (Jason Patric) are both meter maids (Are they still called that?) in Los Angeles. She is kind and timid; he is angry and macho.

Somehow Jay is taken with Claire, and we watch as they begin to engage romantically with immense difficulty. While these opposites do attract, can they make it work?
