On his first feature-length, Alex Deep, a.k.a. Merlinmoon, spins out 10 tracks of commonplace ’70s-inspired rock, with a backwards-looking modern rock demeanor that makes Stoned By Dreams handy fodder for Whisky A GoGo and Viper Room denizens. One problem with Merlinmoon’s leatherpanted, flower-adorned package is his material doesn’t offer much payload.

Although Lennon, Marley, Oasis and Pink Floyd are acknowledged influences, Merlinmoon’s music pales in comparison. The Venezuelan, who now calls Los Angeles home, crafts an easy-listening, SoCal vibe during love-lost documents such as “Bullets Going Through Me” and optimistically vacuous “Poppy Fields.”
