Indie auteur Brad Anderson returns to his claustrophobic roots in the terrifically suspenseful Transsiberian. The young director previously helmed the slow burning, yet scary-as-hell horror film Session 9, which unfortunately got lost in the Blair Witch shuffle that preceded it.

Transsiberian exudes Anderson’s tact for location, using the cold and desolate Siberian backdrop in partnership with the claustrophobia of a train to really up the ante for suspense and tension. We’re also given rock-solid performances by everyone, including Woody Harrelson, who initially appeared to be terribly miscast.

Grade: B+

Transsiberian releases in select theaters Aug. 8.
