Al Pacino stars in this ho-hum thriller about a forensic expert who receives death threats on the eve of the execution of a man he helped put away. Along the way, every serial killer and cop movie cliché crops up as the death threats become increasingly laughable and the red herrings increasingly ridiculous.

The filmmakers don’t even use the built-in concept of the ticking clock. They could’ve made a really tight 88-minute thriller, but director Jon Avnet chooses instead to indulge in annoying, inept stylistic extravagances for an extra 20 minutes.

It’s yet another reminder of Pacino’s apparent disillusionment with his profession.
