The Civilians score a hit. “This Beautiful City” is a fun, unique, very real glimpse into the lives of everyday people in Colorado Springs, a hyper-conservative corner of our world, and their firsthand experiences with recent events.

The play presents the town as a microcosm of issues that affect us all. Among them are Ted Haggard’s fall from the top of the New Life Church and Focus on the Family’s vicious fight against gay marriage. Every point of view is represented, and though it’s never “preachy,” people on either side of any issue will leave with something to think about.

The ensemble cast, like the staging itself, is tight and sharp. The brilliant lighting and set design are impressive and add much to the hip, upbeat tone of the show.
