Powered by the themes of memory being the root of man’s troubles and reject first in order to avoid rejection, Wong Kar Wai’s (My Blueberry Nights) Ashes of Time Redux offers highly stylized, intensely dramatic and ravishingly beautiful snippets of Ouyang Feng’s (Leslie Cheung) life, a man who hires skilled swordsmen to execute contract killings. The reworking of Wong’s only martial arts film is teeming with gorgeous images, from a finger being sliced off to an expansive desert-scape.
