This weekend, four teams hope to fly right into to Tampa Bay, Fla., for Super Bowl XLIII. Three of those teams may take their logos seriously and swoop in like birds.

If you have not noticed, three of the four teams who advanced to the NFL conference championship weekend have an affinity for fowl. This week’s NFC Championship Game will be the only pure bird fight this weekend, as the Philadelphia Eagles face the Arizona Cardinals.

The football gods must be smiling on Phoenix. Not only did the Cardinals win their first home playoff game since the Kennedy administration, but in the last 12 months, the city has hosted Super Bowl XLII, the 2009 BCS Championship game and, now, the NFC title game.

In the first conference championship game ever played in Phoenix, no one could have predicted this match-up in September. Both teams are on a roll. Arizona’s defense has been tough, but Donovan McNabb’s resilience will carry the day, as Philadelphia will punch its ticket to Tampa.

In the AFC, will the Baltimore Ravens run into a steel wall in Pittsburgh? In what may go down as one of the best defensive battles of all time, the team with the fewest turnovers will prevail.

Baltimore is known for forcing turnovers, while the Pittsburgh Steelers are known for forcing opposing offenses to do absolutely nothing – which means Baltimore will rely on its defense to provide all the offense it needs to advance.

The odds-makers in Las Vegas predict a battle for Pennsylvania, but I say Super Bowl XLIII will be the ultimate battle of the birds – the Ravens taking on the Eagles in Tampa.
