With David Beckham watching from a suite, the Los Angeles Galaxy defeated Chivas USA as the visiting squad at the Home Depot Center July 11 with nearly 24,000 in attendance.

In the 30th minute, forward Edson Buddle netted a score as the eventual game-winner. The goal was the only offensive push the Galaxy would need to collect the crucial three road points.

With the victory, the Galaxy improve to 5-3-9 with a total of 24 points, currently good for fifth place in the Western Conference standings. Chivas USA (8-5-3, 27 points) drop to third place with the loss.

Soccer icon Beckham is set to begin practicing with the group this week. He will play in the friendly match between the Galaxy and visiting AC Milan on Sunday.

The Galaxy’s next affair is against the Red Bulls in New York on Thursday at 5 p.m.
