The Los Angeles Galaxy advanced to the Western Conference Championship match after defeating Chivas USA 1-0 Sunday evening and by way of a 3-2 aggregate goal total at the Home Depot Center. Los Angeles is now scheduled to host the Houston Dynamo Friday, Nov. 13, at 8 p.m. for one match. The winner moves on to the MLS Cup Final game in Seattle later this month.

Chivas USA played a competitive 90 minutes, plus stoppage time, but it was the Galaxy squad who was superior and captured the big victory under the Beck’s era. After forward Mike Magee was fouled in the goalkeeper area by a Chivas USA player, striker Landon Donovan fired the penalty kick into the back of the net for the 1-0 edge in the 73rd minute. Donovan used his right leg to beautifully place the ball into the middle, thus fooling goalkeeper Zach Thornton.

Both teams had numerous opportunities to net goals, but neither group was able to capitalize throughout the very physical match. After the contest ended, both teams got into it verbally, and pushing and shoving followed. No red cards were issued, and no one was injured.

Friday’s match will air on ESPN2 at 8 p.m.
