Heading into spring ball, the University of Southern California's football program had a few questions to answer. Fitting into new schemes was certainly one of them, but new head coach Steve Sarkisian decided to create a bigger stir and announce all positions were open for the taking, even quarterback.

Returning starter Cody Kessler always seemed to be the front runner, but highly recruited redshirt freshman Max Browne had the potential to dethrone him.

Now, after 12 practices and the spring game coming this Saturday, "Sark" has made his decision, announcing Kessler will be taking first team snaps...well, at least for now. Although Kessler currently has the keys to the Ferrari, "Sark" was quick to add that Browne could still pass Kessler in the fall, if Kessler’s improvement stagnates.

The news was certainly calming for many Trojan fans, as last year’s quarterback controversy bled into the season and could be blamed for the team’s slow start.

One day, Browne may be the better 'SC quarterback, but at this particular moment, Troy needs a man with the experience to lead. After posting a 10-win season, with a few big wins last fall, Kessler is ripe to be that man.

Heading into his first season as USC’s head coach, it was wise for Sarkisian to go with a guy who’s been there, especially since the home opener is against Fresno State--a team Kessler picked apart last season in the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl.

This year’s quarterback controversy has certainly been exciting, but come next spring, 'SC is going to have a plethora of talent to choose from.

Given the team’s current status, Sarkisian will have to decide between Browne, early spring enrollee Jalen Greene and 2015 committed recruit Ricky Town. Analysts are already calling it a two-way battle between Browne and Town, both being phenomenal pocket passers. Don’t be surprised, though, if Greene's unreal athleticism pushes him to the front of the pack or maybe even to another position on the field.

Things are certainly shaping up in Troy. The Coliseum won’t be rocking too hard this weekend, but come late August, expect that place to blow.

Game day can’t come soon enough!
